BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — With early voting beginning Thursday, Oct. 19 for November municipal elections in many North Carolina counties, the Buncombe County Board of Elections held a meeting recently to inform voters on the need-to-know information as they’re heading out to the polls.
First, it’s important to know the dates for early voting.
It’s a 17-day window that begins on Oct. 19 and ends on Saturday, Nov. 4.
During this window you can go to any voting location to cast your ballot, which is not the case for election day.
Absentee ballots can also be dropped off at any early voting location.
There is also same day registration in Buncombe County during this window.
If you don’t want to wait, here’s the process to getting the needed identification before you go to vote, from Executive Director of the NC State Board of Elections Karen Bell:
“Simply go to your county elections office, provide your name, date of birth and last four digits of your social security number, and have your photo taken,” Bell said. “It’s that easy to get a free ID.”
This year there will also be absentee ID provisional ballots where you can cast your vote without ID initially, but you must bring your ID for a permanent vote.
That must be done within nine days of election day.
