Do you get confused about all the different elected offices and the districts for each?

Below is a short visual tour of all the districts in Buncombe County. You can learn who you will be voting for on our new vote411.org service or by going to the Board of Elections website.

US House Quick Facts

  • There are 435 Members of the US House of Representatives
  • NC  has 13 US House Representatives, Buncombe County has two
  • Nancy Pelosi is the current Speaker of the House
  • District 10 Rep (Blue): Patrick McHenry
  • District 11 Rep (Red): Mark Meadows
  • This is the district line that we traced in the Gerrymander 5k. We believe this to be a partisan gerrymander.

  • There are 120 Members of the NC House of Representatives
  • Tim Moore is the current Speaker of the House
  • District 116 Rep: Brian Turner

NC Superior Courts

 

 

 

NC Superior Court Quick Facts

  • Superior Court is divided into eight divisions and 50 districts
  • Buncombe County is in the Eight Division
  • All felony criminal cases, civil cases involving more than $25,000 and misdemeanor and infraction appeals from District Court are tried in Superior Court. A jury of 12 hears the criminal cases. In the civil cases, juries are often waived.

  • District Court is also referred to as Trial Court and can be divided into: civil, criminal, juvenile and magistrate
  • Buncombe County is the 28th district
  • District Court sits in the county seat of each county. It may also sit in certain other cities and towns, if specifically authorized by the General Assembly.

  • There are seven commissioners, two for each district and a Chair
  • They serve four year terms
  • Brownie Newman is the current Chair
  • District 1 Commissioners: Jasmine Beach-Ferrara and Al Whitesides
  • District 2 Commissioners: Mike Fryar and Amanda Edwards
  • District 3 Commissioners: Joe Belcher and Robert Pressley
