BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — The North Carolina State Board of Elections has announced that early voting in North Carolina reached a record number of voters.

As of Friday, Nov. 1, more than 3,798,000 voters cast their ballots in person during the early voting period, which started on Oct. 17.

According to the North Carolina State Board of Elections, the total number of early voters in 2024 breaks the previous record of 3,629,000 in-person early voters voting in 2020.

The State Board of Elections also reports that 65 percent of voters used the early voting period to cast their ballots in 2020.

The State Board of Elections reported two other milestones passed during the early voting period, including that the total number of voters for the 2024 election has now exceeded four million, representing a turnout of more than half, or 51.2%, of the state’s registered voters.

In Henderson County alone 900 people cast their ballot at one of its polling locations, Fletcher Town Hall, on Oct. 31st.

Addy Tirado said she is thrilled for the opportunity to come out and vote.

“I teach AP government at a school down the road, so I was grateful to be teaching my students about this and now be able to do my public duty,” said Tirado. “This is my chance to actually participate as a citizen of the United States.”

The early voting period will end at 3 p.m. on Nov. 2.
