ERA (Equal Rights Amendment) Action Team
The Equal Rights Amendment is an amendment to the United States Constitution which states: Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.
It guarantees equal legal rights for all American citizens regardless of sex, and it seeks to end the legal distinctions between men and women in terms of divorce, property, employment, and other matters.
At the state level, the team coordinates with LWVNC on advocating for ratification of the amendment by the NC Legislature. At the national level, the team supports passage of US House and Senate joint resolutions which would remove the amendment’s ratification deadline.
Team members are:
Lynne Joshi, Chair
CJ Breland
Juanita Carrier
Jimmie Cochran Pratt
Carol Covington
Suzanne Fisher
Roberta Madden
