Litigation Update: Redistricting
In April, the League of Women Voters of Michigan won its partisan gerrymandering case when a three-judge panel ruled that the state’s redistricting plan was unconstitutional and ordered them to draft a remedial plan. In May, the League of Women Voters of Ohio also won its partisan gerrymandering case when the court ruled the state’s map was unconstitutional and ordered new maps be drawn this summer. Both state legislatures appealed their cases to the U.S. Supreme Court, and the courtgranted a stay in both Michigan and Ohio that puts a hold on the remedial plans they are drafting until the court rules on Rucho v. League of Women Voters of North Carolina, whose decision will come down this month.
